PROJECT OVERVIEW
This Expanded Cinema project is an immersive LED installation set in the forest. The installation comes to life in the dark, where the LED lights alter the audience’s perceptions of the space through creating an infinite dark space.
CONCEPT & INSPIRATION
Inspired by works of Yayoi Kusama, Tony Oursler, and James Turrell, I saw two ways to creating immersion: creating endlessness through mesmerizing visual effect and enhance audience participation. Darkness is inherently immersive, but in complete darkness, its vastness can go unnoticed. By selectively illuminating small portions of the forest with LEDs, I aim to heighten the audience’s awareness of the infinite expanse of darkness, drawing them deeper into the immersive experience.
OBJECTIVES
- To use LED illumination in a forest to heighten awareness of the infinite nature of darkness and create an immersive sensory experience.
